Black Orchid Trio
Music of 20's & 30's,
and more...
About Us

The Black Orchid Trio was formed in 2005 to
accompany a staged radio drama, No Orchids for

  Miss Blandish
, at The Evidence Room Theatre of
Los Angeles, and soon took on a life of it's own, with
David Bickford, Hope Levy, and Greg Bowden
appearing regularly in the showroom of the (now
closed) Tangier Restaurant in Los Feliz, CA, and
  other venues.
Guest musicians joined the fun
from time to time,  including Sean McDermott
(sax), and drummers Jay Miles and Jim Conner.

The Trio began a two year hiaitus when orignal vocalist Hope Levy had a baby (who subsequently appeared on the
cover of TIME Magazine!)

  (Hope's son Sam!)

The group revived in 2008 when Greg (bass) and David (piano) had the pleasure to start working with the gifted vocalist Rebecca Larsen.  With drummer Jay Hilt as the "forth" member, The New BLACK ORCHID TRIO has has become busier than ever (see sample list of VENUES PLAYED below).

Current "Trio" Members:

REBECCA LARSEN
 - Chanteuse and Percussion

Actress and singer, she has been seen on Veronica Mars, House, and is a lead in the upcoming Scream of the Bikini.

DAVID BICKFORD
- Piano and Backing Vocals

Classically trained at the Julius Hartt School of music, his piano
career includes stints as house pianist at Perilous Pauline’s in New York City and the 1985  Kennedy Center Honors in Washington, D.C., where he was playing the music of Lerner & Lowe during the pre-show reception before that legendary composing team received medals from then President Reagan. As an accompanist, he has backed such talented singers as Shirley Jones, Megan Hilty, Vegas headliner Mark Gioffi, and many others.  As a vocal coach he has helped his clients land musical theatre jobs on Broadway, the Las Vegas strip and regional theaters around the country.  A composer himself,  David's score for the world premiere of Bertolt Brecht & W.H. Auden’s adaptation of The Duchess of Malfi (1998) was nominated for an LA Weekly Theatre Award.

GREG BOWDEN -
Bass and Backing Vocals
A versatile, much in demand musician, Greg has toured at times as a keyboard player, a guitar player and/or bass player with ensembles ranging from jazz to blues to rock & roll.

JAY HILT - Drummer
This talented drummer, with a great feel for our "period" style, recently started performing with the group, as the "fourth" member of the Trio.

ROMAN SIRWINSKI - (Alternate) Bass Player
Founding member Greg has been busy with his own business and we have been fortunate to find another talented stand-up bass artist to fill in from time to time.  Roman can be heard playing on our new demo tracks "Lulu's Back In Town" and "Don't Get Around Much Anymore."
